Production Manager

Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center is looking for a seasoned production manager to ensure the safe and efficient running of all performing arts spaces. The ideal candidate should be detail oriented with a calm demeanor and the ability to work with a variety of professional and amateur artists.

Position Summary:  The Production Manager is responsible for the supervision, scheduling and coordination of the theater and technical personnel for all productions at Livermore Arts venues.

Essential Job Duties include:

  • Works closely with resident organizations and other theater users to develop and implement production requirements
  • Coordinates and supervises in-house theater technicians, and other technicians, including those not in the direct employ of the facility, engaged in producing a stage or non-stage production
  • Determines priorities of event coordination: hanging of soft goods, electric, audio, and supplemental rental equipment
  • Determines and prioritizes purchase of replacement and upgrade of equipment based on need and budget
  • Establishes the number of technicians, time and material required to stage various events and schedules same, prior to each production
  • Coordinates the budgeting, purchasing, scheduling, repair and maintenance of all stage equipment
  • Establishes and manages budget for the production department
  • Reviews and submits timesheets for production staff
  • Hires and reviews staff in the production department
  • Coordinate training for production staff and production representatives of resident companies
  • Coordinates all production staffing needs for resident company productions, including the stage and effective use of resident company volunteers
  • Advances preparation with visiting production personnel regarding technical rider requirements
  • Assists and helps coordinate with management staff various front-of-house events
  • Assists in setting goals and strategies for the overall development of LVPAC
  • Establishes and maintains good working relationships with resident companies and renters
  • Serves as a resource for resident companies assisting with the development of production requirements
  • Attend meetings as needed
  • Facilitate weekly operations meetings with Executive Director
  • Review contracts and riders for Bankhead Presents performances
  • Assist with additional programming as needed
  • Other related duties as assigned

Education and requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Theater Production or equivalent experience
  • Experience and training which would indicate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform duties listed above
  • Experience or knowledge of theater
  • Considerable knowledge in stage technical work and stage management
  • Thorough knowledge of theater craft, tools, practices and techniques
  • Strong interest in and/or appreciation for the arts
  • Ability to supervise and motivate staff including groups of stagehands, stage electricians and/or stage carpenters
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to work with resident organizations, visiting artists, event producers and others to advance the work of the performing arts center
  • Work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Attention to detail and deadlines
  • Physical ability to work long hours when needed
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to coordinate all the components in presenting major theatrical productions
  • Willingness to work in a high-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Ability to hold arms up for long periods of time
  • Punctuality and reliability is essential
  • Learn and follow safety procedures
