Masters from Guinea, Ghana & Madagascar
Three Juno Award-winning guitarists from Canada, backed by bass and percussion, deliver an infectious style of music full of the rich flavors of their native Africa. Inspired by each other and their shared stories, they combine their expert musicianship with their distinct cultural backgrounds and languages,to reach an incredible musical summit.
The smooth fire of guitarist Alpha YaYa Diallo from Guinea, joins two artists from Madagascar – the quicksilver guitars and harmonies of Donne Roberts and Madagascar Slim. The rhythmic talents of drummer Kofi Ackah from Ghana are backed by electric bass and ballafon (an African marimba) played by Naby Camara, also from Guinea. Their debut album “African Guitar Summit” won the Juno World Music Album of the Year in 2005 and their second album, “African Guitar Summit II,” repeated the win two years later. Since then, they have appeared together and as soloists, sharing their unique sound and energetic style with enthusiastic audiences across North America.
