Genes, Cancer and New Treatments
Dr. Ashworth’s research focuses on understanding cancer genetics in order to change patient treatment. He was a key part of the team that identified the BRCA2 breast cancer susceptibility gene, which is linked to an increased risk of some types of cancer in both men and women. Dr. Ashworth will explain the development of targeted therapy for cancer. This personalized approach exploits genetic deficiencies of BRCA-related and other cancers.
Alan Ashworth, Ph.D., F.R.S. is President of the UC San Francisco Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Previously he was head of the Institute of Cancer Research in London, UK.
