Bankhead Presents: Mariachi Herencia de Mexico
Chicago’s leading youth mariachi group plays the music of their heritage with a passion and dedication that is igniting interest in traditional Mexican music for a new generation of fans. Their debut album Neuestra Herencia (Our Heritage), believed to be the first major Mariachi recording released by a youth ensemble in the US, soared up the iTunes Latin chart before being nominated for a Latin Grammy Award. All the more amazing, this ensemble of students from Chicago’s immigrant barrios range in age from just 11 years old to 18. They perform regularly at major concerts, festivals and sporting events in Chicago and are booked to debut in the coming year at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and Joes Pub in New York City. Neuestra Herencia was produced and arranged by Los Angeles-based mariachi master Jose Hernandez and features as guests, artists from some of the most respected groups from both sides of the border.
