“The Mystery of the Magi’s Gold”

It’s “CSI: Bethlehem” in this holiday mystery extravaganza from the author of Late Nite Catechism, as Sister takes on the mystery that has intrigued historians throughout the ages – whatever happened to the Magi’s gold? (“We know that Mary used the frankincense and myrrh as a sort of potpourri – they were in a barn after all.”) Retelling the story of the nativity, as only Sister can, she employs her own scientific tools and, assisted by audience members, creates a living nativity unlike any you’ve ever seen. Members of the Mendenhall Combined Choir will contribute their celestial notes to this not-to-be-missed evening for the whole family. With gifts galore and bundles of laughs, Sister’s Christmas Catechism is the perfect start to the holiday season.

Comedy’s Future Stars

Now in its 42nd year, the San Francisco Comedy Competition has helped launch a Who’s Who of comic champions. Over the years, legends such as Robin Williams, Dana Carvey, and Ellen DeGeneres have emerged from this stand-up comedy contest to become stars.

Among the many competitions around the country, the format of the San Francisco Comedy Competition makes winning particularly challenging. The preliminary rounds consist of short stand up sets in six venues, which may include comedy clubs, bars, restaurants, casinos and theaters. Ten comedians proceed to the semi-finals for longer sets in six more venues, before moving to the finals, where the length of the sets increase to 12-15 minutes.

Since 2015, the Bankhead Theater has become a popular stop, one of the last on the semi final circuit, where the competition keeps audiences on the edge of their seats … until they’re rolling in the aisle with laughter.

A multi-talented performer, she started her career as a dancer, has written plays as well as starred in them, and authored several books including her most recent, “I Still Have It . . .
